Wine Economics
I grew up with wine, and majored in agricultural economics at the University of California (Davis) planning to make a career in winery management. My wife and I spent many enjoyable weekends touring the Napa Valley, learning about wine and the business of making and selling wine.
While still an undergraduate, I was hired by a professor in the Environmental Studies Division to be the primary research assistant on several large-scale empirical studies of the effects of local government regulation on housing prices. Slowly but surely, I was infected by the research bug and wine became less a vocation than an avocation. I joined the American Association of Wine Economics shortly after it was founded in 2006. |
Wine Tourism
Even though my college days are long past, I still know my way around the Napa and Sonoma Valleys blindfolded, and occasionally I organize and lead tours. In 2007, I organized a wine tour of Chile and Argentina. In 2010, I did the preliminary planning for a tour of Piemonte, where Barolo is king (and deserves to be so). I look forward to touring France, Germany, Spain and Portugal, and of course, Australia.
