Wine Economics
|
I grew up with wine, and majored in agricultural economics at the University of California (Davis) planning to make a career in winery management. My wife and I spent many enjoyable weekends touring the Napa Valley, learning about wine and the business of making and selling wine.
While still an undergraduate, I was hired by a professor in the Environmental Studies Division to be the primary research assistant on several large-scale empirical studies of the effects of local government regulation on housing prices. Slowly but surely, I was infected by the research bug and wine became less a planned vocation than an avocation. I joined the American Association of Wine Economics shortly after it was founded in 2006. |
Wine Tourism
Even though my college days are long ago, I still know my way around the Napa and Sonoma Valleys blindfolded and occasionally I organize and lead tours. In 2007, I organized a wine tour of Chile and Argentina. In 2010, I did the preliminary planning for a tour of Piemonte, where Barolo is king (and deserves to be so). I look forward to touring France, Germany, Spain and Portugal, and of course, Australia.
But they all have to wait. The AAWE will hold its 2013 annual meeting in Stellenbosch, South Africa. So of course, I am organizing a wine tour. For more information, contact me.
